The site for modern writers - tools, tips and guides.
Fifteen cards in, every message starts to sound the same. A simple workflow, example messages for family, coworkers and clients, and an AI prompt template keep each one personal, including for people who do not celebrate.
The toasts people remember are about a minute long and built on one real thing someone did. Here is how to find that thing, shape it, draft it with or without an AI assistant, and rehearse it so it sounds like you talking.
For a book, thesis or long report, choose the shape of the app before the brand: one long document, a project app that splits the work into sections, or a folder of plain text files. Five questions settle it.
Run one real recording through two or three transcription tools and count the errors that would hurt you: names, numbers, jargon and speaker labels. Then check quote-checking features, privacy and exports.
Have your computer read your draft aloud while you follow on screen. A text-to-speech voice reads exactly what you typed, so doubled words, missing words and broken sentences stand out. Here is what it catches, what it misses and the routine around it.
Use the AI transcript as a map of the recording, not the record. Let an assistant find themes and timestamps, then check every quote against the audio word for word before it reaches your draft.
A one-page style sheet lists your sentence habits, your words, the things you never write and a sample of your prose. Build it from your best work, attach it to every AI request, and the suggestions land much closer to how you write.
Choose a notes app by testing the path a note takes: how fast you can capture it, how easily you find it again, whether its source stays attached, and how it gets into a draft. Questions to ask and a one-week trial.
A grammar checker changes words; an AI assistant can change what you are saying. Use the assistant early for planning and structure, the checker late for line edits and proofreading, and your own eyes last.
Treat every fact from an AI assistant as a lead. Trace it to the original source, check the source says exactly that, then keep and cite it, rewrite it, or cut it. A five-step routine for writers.
Edit an AI-assisted draft in three passes: argument and order, then sentence rhythm, then words. The rhythm pass is the one most writers skip, and it is where your voice comes back.
Write your angle in one sentence first, list your own points, then use the AI assistant to group, question and stress-test them. A seven-step outlining workflow that keeps the thinking yours.
